Stocks Group in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire which comprises of Site Service Engineering, Trent Lifting, Newlea Fuel Systems and Scotton Site Services was recently mentioned in a list of ‘1000 Inspirational’ companies compiled by the London Stock Exchange.
The Scunthorpe Telegraph reporting on the project stated: The mammoth project has been compiled by the London Stock Exchange with the help of Growth Intelligence, a technology firm that monitors the performance activity of every registered business in the UK.
They were Grimsby’s Blackrow Engineering, Eco Plastics of Hemswell, coffee specialist Lincoln and York of Elsham, access security manufacturer Bradbury Group, mechanical engineering firm Stocks Group and TSC Foods, all of Scunthorpe, and Wren Kitchens, the retail and manufacturing giant that is in the process of moving to the former Kimberly-Clark site at Barton.
Frustratingly for those keen to champion northern Lincolnshire’s success stories, all are listed as having Doncaster addresses in the published material. Eligible companies had to show revenue growth in three of the past four years, on top of outperforming their rivals in the same sector.
Other factors ignored turnover altogether, assessing businesses by increase in employee numbers, expansion of work space, and by the number of patents filed.
“At the core of the methodology was relative growth,” said Tom Gatten, chief executive and founder of Growth Intelligence, explaining the listings as first published in the Daily Telegraph. “We were looking for companies that were growing much faster than their peers.”
