Scunthorpe Engineering Company Strikes Gold.... Again!Scunthorpe company, Site Service Engineering Ltd., have received the prestigious RoSPA 2009 Gold Medal Award for Occupational Health and Safety for the second year in a row, acknowledging its continuous commitment to the prevention of accidents in the work place.

The gold medal is awarded to companies who have achieved five consecutive gold awards and shows the consistent level of importance the company has placed in ensuring the safety of its workers.

David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager, said: “Site Service Engineering has shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others.  We hope other businesses and organisations will follow its lead and strive for continuous improvement in health and safety management.”

Site Service Engineering, part of the Stocks Group, specialise in the fields of structural, mechanical and pipe work engineering, frequently working in hazardous industrial conditions ranging from great heights to confined spaces. In the modern environment, the need for good health and safety practice is constantly emphasised and this award accentuates how Site Service Engineering have set the standards for other companies in the area to follow.

Chris Claypole, Group Health & Safety Manager said, “We are very proud to receive our fifth consecutive gold award from RoSPA. We work extremely hard on our safety performance and this achievement underlines our commitment.”

“I am particularly pleased that we have received the award over this last year, a year in which bigger capacity jobs have been undertaken, demonstrating that we have been able to maintain our performance during a period in which there has been a lot of potentially high risk work activities.”

Site Service Engineering Ltd. has been involved in some major projects on Scunthorpe steel works in the past year including the installation of a new cooling tower pipe work at Appleby Coke Ovens and work completed on Castor 5 as part of Corus’ multi million pound Scorpio project.

The RoSPA awards are not just about reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill-health at work; they help to ensure that organisations have good health and safety management systems in place. Entering the awards scheme reinforces the message that good health and safety is good business and clearly demonstrates an organisation’s dedication to the achievement of high levels of performance in this crucial area.

The Gold Medal Award was presented to Site Service Engineering Ltd. at a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, National Exhibition Centre, in May, alongside Safety & Health Expo 2009, the UK’s premier health and safety at work exhibition.
